Another player has his wrist sliced by a skate (Video)
Earlier this week Evander Kane suffered a gruesome injury when Patrick Maroon's skate made contact with his wrist. Kane later revealed that the cut went down to his bone slicing through everything in-between. Luckily Kane received the best possible medical care and underwent successful surgery that night.
Now less than a week later, at the Karjala Cup, Waltteri Merelä was forced to leave a game after suffering a similar injury. During the game a Czechia player's skate caught Merela directly on the wrist. The injury left an immediate pool of blood and the broadcast captured the moments it occurred.
After the game the Finnish Team Manager, Mike Kortelainen told Ilta-Sanomat that Merela was not immediately transported to hospital.
It was a frightening situation and everyone was startled when a long bloodline appeared on the ice and the man crashed into the stall. But, the situation seems to be stable now. The doctor got to him straight away and cold compresses were applied. He was able to shower on his own.
There is currently no word on recovery time for Merela, but it should be similar to Kane as they suffered similar injuries.
