As Islanders Continue To Struggle, Lamoriello's Job Is In Jeopardy.
The New York Islanders continue to battle to find any consistency in their game as they lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 last night. It was just a few seasons ago that the Islanders looked like contenders and took the Tampa Bay Lightning to a seventh game in the Eastern Conference Finals. Since that time though the team has struggled and not played well ever since. They missed the playoffs last season and this year they could miss again if they can't put some wins together. The next few games for the Islanders are critical. If they fall any further in the standings, it will be an early spring for this club.
It might be time for a fresh look in Long Island and that means Lou Lamoriello's days as President may soon be over. Lamoriello already let go of head coach Barry Trotz and that move has not resulted in better team play at all. Was letting Trotz go a big mistake? The team has not done better without him.
Although the Islanders have several good players already, the roster needs some turnover and some fresh new talent. At least for Islander fans this team is not in need of an entire rebuild, just some new direction and possibly a few roster changes. Perhaps even another coaching change.
If the Islanders miss the playoffs again, you'd have to think Lamorillo is on the hot seat. It's been several seasons of mediocrity and inconsistent play and it's time for a change. Likely major changes like this won't take place until the offseason, but the Islanders situation is certainly one to pay attention to.
