Barry Trotz has finally made a decision on whether he'd like to coach again or not
Much to everyone's surprise the New York Islanders opted to fire Barry Trotz after only 4 seasons with the club. In those 4 years he reached the Conference Finals twice. So when Lou Lamoriello opted to hire Lane Lambert as a replacement many fans felt it would take no time at all for Trotz to find another job in the industry.
And why wouldn't he?
After opting out of his contract with the Washington Capitals after winning the Stanley Cup, Trotz had his pick of the litter. Reportedly that was the case all over again, but Trotz had other priorities in mind.
According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, Trotz spent the summer deal with some personal issues but has now decided he's ready to return to coaching and to the NHL.
LeBrun also stated that Trotz feels refreshed. The last time Trotz had a year off was 2004 when the work stoppage cost the NHL a complete season. In his career Trotz has coached for 3 different teams and he's coaches 1812 career games. His career coaching record is 914-670-60-168.
With Barry Trotz on the market it might make it much easier for a team to fire their coach knowing such a respected option is available.
