Boston Bruins considering taking an NBA style approach to the future of Patrice Bergeron
The Boston Bruins continue to fire on all cylinders this season and are playing outstanding hockey. The team has just five regulation losses in forty-six games played. Since the Bruins have been on such a hot streak this season, the team has approached captain Patrice Bergeron about resting him at certain points throughout the season. Bergeron continues has continued his stellar play this season, but remember he is thirty-seven years old. Some rest and recovery time might get him feeling good before the playoffs begin in the spring.
This is not a bad idea by the Bruins, and they have the luxury of offering this to Bergeron since the team has played so well this season. They can afford to have their captain rest for a few games. I am sure it will be an ongoing with Bergeron to see where he's at as the year progresses. The team should be cautious with this approach though. They want there team to continue to play at a high level and playing well before the playoffs start. So, there is a fine line here.
Another possibility could be reducing his ice time down the stretch. Perhaps he could play on the power play or penalty kill but not both. Surely the Bruins will get their options sorted out as they look to be a serious contender for the Stanley Cup this season.
