At the end of last season, fans were certainly frustrated at how the season ended for the Toronto Maple Leafs. So much so in fact that many people wanted head coach Sheldon Keefe fired. That combined with the departure of Kyle Dubas almost certainly signalled the end of Keefe's tenure behind the Leafs bench, or so it appeared. With new general manger Brad Treliving finally getting acclimated, will that actually happen? Maybe not.
According to David Alter of Sports Illustrated, NHL Network and The Hockey News, Treliving may be working on a Keefe extension, contrary to popular belief; take a look.
It's evident that even though people thought that Sheldon Keefe was Dubas' guy, it sounds like he has more to offer. If he didn't, Treliving would've made an example out of him as soon as he took over as general manager.
Now it's always possible that Treliving is saving firing Keefe as the first bullet should things start badly for the Leafs next season, but if his intention wasn't to keep Keefe around there would be no reason to talk about an extension with him seeing as his contract runs through next season.
