Rumors have swirled for years that the Arizona Coyotes would eventually move out of the desert. After multiple failed attempts for new arenas, it seemed inevitable that the Coyotes time in Arizona was nearing an end. When fans had already given up on the franchise, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman refused to do so.
Now it appears that Bettman may have finally won. After playing the last two seasons in a college arena, the ownership group of the Coyotes set out to find a permanent home. It now appears they have finally done so.
If the deal is finalized, it will also secure the team's long-term future in Arizona. This will provide fans with a sense of relief as a team has finally begun to turn around their on ice performance. Only time will tell if the old saying of "if you build it, they will come" applies to an arena in the desert.
