Up until last week, Jonathan Toews was expected to be traded by the Chicago Blackhawks. The team if fully known to be selling any and all assets to acquire futures to help their rebuild, while assisting their descent on in the standings and getting the highest draft pick possible. Even while that's still the case, now they may not be able to trade their captain, Jonathan Toews.
It's extremely unfortunate for Toews, not only dealing with chronic illness, but because he was having somewhat of a resurgent year. His offensive production still wasn't close to his previous career highs, but he would still fetch a nice return for the Blackhawks at the deadline, and have the opportunity to contend for another Stanley Cup.
Teams that were in the running for Toews may now have to look elsewhere to fill their need, which could potentially drive up the acquisition cost of players like Max Domi, Ivan Barbashev, or Nick Bjugstad.
