Breaking News - Montreal Canadiens Name A New Captain
The Montreal Canadiens have been playing without a captain since Game 5, of the 2020-2021 Stanley Cup Final. This was Shea Weber's last game as a professional hockey player.
Weber's contract was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights this off-season to give Vegas some cap relief.
The Canadiens has made a decision on their next captain. Center Nick Suzuki is going to be the 31st captain of the Montreal Canadiens' franchise. Brendan Gallagher & Joel Edmundson will serve assistant captains.
Suzuki signed an eight-year, $63 million contract extension last fall. He is coming off of a 2021-22 season where he produced 21 goals and 40 assists for 61 total points for the Habs. It was his third season in the NHL after being dealt to the Habs in the big Max Pacioretty trade.
A young, 23-year-old player, who is improving each year in the show, is a great choice.
