Breaking News - Nazem Kadri reportedly signs with an Eastern Conference team
Nazem Kadri couldn't have picked a better time to have the best season of his career. In the final year of his contract he put up 87 points in 71 games for the Avalanche. Unfortunately for Colorado this meant extending Kadri was likely going to be out of their budget.
While many believed Kadri would sign shortly after the July 13th opening of free agency, that was not the case. Now it does appear that Kadri has found his next team. That new team will also reconnect Kadri with his former General Manager, Lou Lamoreillo.
According to Mark Seidel, a former NHL Scout, Kadri has agreed to terms with the New York Islanders.
Just got off the phone with a guy that knows & I think that Nazem Kadri is done to @NYIslanders They have to clear out some cap room & then it'll be announced. I'm FAR from an Insider but I'm very confident that it's done. Great signing by NYI & Nazem Kadri deserves every penny.
If this is the case, this will take an already aging Islanders core and make them even older. As Lou Lamoreillo tries to get the Islanders back into the playoffs this move is likely to be a sink or swim type deal.
