Well, the wait is finally over, it was all but a forgone conclusion that Patrick Kane was leaving the Chicago Blackhawks this season, we just didn't know where or for whom.
After about a week of speculation linking Kane to the New York Rangers, the deal will finally happen tonight after 5 pm. With the deal happening after 5 pm, it will mean Kane's cap hit won't be on the books until tomorrow
The return sees the Blackhawks receive a conditional 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick. The 2nd round pick becomes a 1st rounder if the Rangers win two rounds.
Kane joins a Rangers team that already acquired Vladimir Tarasenko early this month from the St. Louis Blues. This move bolsters an already dangerous offence.
Kane, 34, has played his entire career with the Blackhawks. This season in 54 games he has a total of 45 points on a team sitting near the bottom of the standings, including 16 goals and 29 assists.
With this move, at this point for the Rangers, you'd have to think it's Stanley Cup or bust for them. Paying a hefty price to get Kane means they need to win and they need to win now. I'd say, they have a pretty good shot, too.
