The Toronto Maple Leafs opted to completely rebuild their goaltending situation this summer. The team acquired Matt Murray from the Ottawa Senators via trade and signed Ilya Samsonov from the Washington Capitals. Now it appears the Leafs could be without Matt Murray after the veteran netminder was injured during this morning's practice.

Matt Murray appeared to be in discomfort. Immediately sought out goalie coach Curtis Sanford and then immediately departed the session. Stay tuned.

While this situation could usually be easily handled by calling up a player from the American Hockey League that's where things get difficult. Last night the Leafs 3rd string goalie, Erik Kalgren was injured in a game after being run over. The Marlies other goaltenders Keith Petruzzelli and Dylan Ferguson are on AHL only contracts, making them not options.

So the Maple Leafs can just sign one of them right? Wrong, the Maple Leafs are currently in a situation where all 50 of their contract slots are full. That means the Maple Leafs have no choice, but to potentially look at emergency recalls from local college or University teams or to make a trade so they can sign one of their AHL goalies.

Whatever happens, Kyle Dubas has his hands full with this situation.
