Buffalo Bills provide incredible update on Damar Hamlin
When Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field on Monday night it was obvious that the 24-year-old was suffering a medical emergency. After a heavy collision to the chest the safety stood up, and then collapsed to the field. The game was immediately cancelled and Hamlin was given emergency attention on the field.
Both CPR and an AED device were used on the field to restart Hamlin's heart. As he was removed from the stadium he was intubated and using assisted breathing. Since then Hamlin's vitals have stabilized, and he was placed into a medically induced coma.
Today the Buffalo Bills added this incredible news and update on Hamlin's condition.
Per the physicians at UCMC, Damar's breathing tube was removed overnight. He continues to progress remarkably in his recovery.
His neurologic function remains intact and he has been able to talk to his family and care team.
Hamlin also wanted to let his teammates know he was alright and provided the following update.
This is amazing: For the first time, #Bills S Damar Hamlin is addressing the team via Facetime. The breathing tube is out, and he's spent the morning speaking to various teammates on Facetime. Now, he's delivering a message to the entire group, I'm told.
This is an incredible update on an incredible young man. Hopefully he continues to improve and may someday return to the field.
