During the Toronto Maple Leafs first game of the 2021 playoffs, John Tavares had one of the most scary incidents that we've seen in a long time. Tavares was knocked out cold by an accidental knee to the head. He eventually had to be removed from the ice on a stretcher and did not return for the rest of the playoffs.
Unfortunately some people saw the Tavares injury as an opportunity. Like most big companies, CCM turned a scary injury into part of a marketing campaign. CCM is introducing a new helmet and John Tavares is the player they chose to help them launch it. Make no mistake, they made sure to mention about how his injury could have been worse if he wasn't wearing the right helmet.
I'm suprised CCM didn't ask the NHL if they could use a clip of Tavares being kneed in the head in their promo package. I don't think it would've mattered what helmet Tavares was wearing when that happened, but to spin it into a marketing campaign is just callous.
