Over the weekend, news broke that a college prep hockey team had been involved in a serious bus crash. The team was on their way back to their hotel after visiting a local restaurant when their bus was struck by a semi-truck. The accident left 16 people injured, and 3 of those in critical condition.

When the accident occurred police were already on route after receiving multiple complaints of a truck driving erratically. Unfortunately for those involved police were unable to reach the scene before the accident.

Now 3 days later charges have been laid against the driver of the truck. Victor Santos, the driver, has been charged with a level 5 felony. The charges included charges for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and causing serious bodily injuries. Santos bond has been set at $75,000.

Police provided the following information about the investigation:

The police reported that the semi-truck stopped less than a mile up the road after swerving into a ditch. Officers on-site "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person and in the cab of the semi," according to police.

Further charges may still be laid or charges upgraded if additional information is uncovered or if the condition of any of the victims changes.

The school has stated they will provide any necessary counselling to any student who needs to help deal with the trauma. They have also scheduled a service for later this week to support the team. Our thoughts and prayer continue to be with the victims.
