Every time a player laces up the skates there is a level of risk involved. Every player is aware of those risks and takes as many precautions as possible to prevent the associated injuries. Unfortunately sometimes those injuries are unavoidable.

Last night, during a game between the Colorado Avalanche and Seattle Kraken, forward Artturi Lehkonen suffered what could be a significant injury. After a collision with Jamie Oleksiak, Lehkonen falls awkwardly into the boards head first.

Really scary play here. Lehkonen goes head-first into the boards after contact with Oleksiak. Just the smallest shove by Oleksiak threw him off balance. No penalty on the play.

Thankfully, Lehkonen was able to skate off, but he was moving very slowly and went down the tunnel.

While Lehkonen left the ice under his own power, he was transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons.

Artturi Lehkonen left tonight's game in the second period. He is alert, responsive and has full movement. He is being taken to a local hospital as a precaution for further evaluation.

Hopefully there is no significant injury to Lehkonen and he makes a quick return.
