Colorado Avalanche suspend player indefinitely for abandoning the team
Today the Colorado Avalanche and Colorado Eagles announced that they have officially suspended Danil Zhuravlyov indefinitely. Zhuravlyov, a fifth-round draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2018, has decided to go back to his native Russia and, thus, has been officially suspended by the Colorado Eagles of the American Hockey League.
NHL sources describe the reasons to why Zhuravlyov left as «personal and family-related.» The suspension is not because of any personal misconduct or other off-ice issues.
Zhuravlyov leaves the AHL after playing 14 games for the Eagles, recording 1 point. Zhuravlyov previously played three seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League with Kazan AK Bars.
The Avalanche will still hold the 22 year old's NHL contractual rights for the extent of his two years signed last summer. Zhuravlyov could be reinstated by the Avalanche/Eagles if he decides to change his mind but it appears like he just wants to go back to his homeland in Russia.
