Columbus Blue Jackets Rookie's Big Moment
On April 8th, Nick Blankenburg arrived from Michigan to ink an entry-level contract, with the rebuilding Columbus Blue Jackets. The two-way defenseman went undrafted this year but went far by taking the Frozen Four winners, the Denver Pioneers to OT.
Replicating the winning culture in Michigan, Blankenburg has brought the fight to Ohio. His first assist came April 13th, against the Canadiens which led to a 5-1 victory, in his first six games he's already had an impact on the ice.
In the April 24th game versus the Edmonton Oilers, Blankenburg delivered a decisive first career goal on the Power-Play.
Blankenburg was a walk-on at Michigan, was Owen Power's linemate, and was also voted Captain at his time in Ann-Arbor.
The goal gave the Blue Jackets a needed lead after the tying goal by Evander Kane was scored on the rebound.
Blankenburg has a current cap hit of $1,688,452.00, which is a two-way contract with the club.
