The Ottawa Senators have made some very good moves this off-season, certainly propelling them in the right direction. With those moves, some mainstays in Ottawa had to make their way out. Connor Brown, however, was not one of those players having requested a trade from the Sens.

According to NHL.com, Brown's trade to the the Washington Capitals on July 13th caught him off guard.
I'm not sure, I can't really tell you what was going on behind the scenes or whatever, but I put some good years there and played hard. You put a bunch of years in with the team, you're trying to build something, you get close to a lot of guys, but in the end, you can only worry about what you can control and not about what you can't.

All I can do is play.

I can understand players being being shocked about a trade they didn't see coming, but it's been widely reported that Brown requested a trade from Ottawa. His shock doesn't really make any sense.
The trade request has been widely reported across multiple platforms including local radio TSN1200. Brown, 28, had 10 goals and 29 assists for 39 points last season with the Senators in 64 games. He may be shocked by the trade, but Brown is a fantastic depth addition to the Capitals roster.
This truly appears like a case of remorse on Brown's part. It appears as though he wasn't interested in being apart of a struggling team in Ottawa, but once the Senators went all in, it sounds like Brown suddenly wanted to be part of the solution.
