Crash Injures Four Members of Championship Hockey Team, One Fatally
The hockey community in Minnesota is in mourning following the untimely death of a member of a local team that recently won a national championship. Four members of the Gustavus Adolphus hockey team, which won the NCAA Division III championship in March, were in an SUV early Sunday morning that collided with a mini-van. All four were injured. 19-year-old goaltender Jori Jones of Little Canada, Minnesota was killed.
"Yesterday, four women's hockey players for Gustavus were in a car crash, and Jori Jones tragically passed away. According to the Star Tribune, police said one of the vehicles involved in the crash failed to stop at a stop sign. Authorities would not specify which one. Also travelling in the vehicle with Jones were 19-year-old Gianna Gasparini, 20-year-old Kayla Bluhm, and Lily K. Mortenson, 19. Their injuries are described as non-critical. The driver of the mini-van also survived the crash.
According to the team's head coach, the women were travelling back from an off-season trip to South Dakota that was meant "to see each other and enjoy their company,"
