Eastern Conference team claims Kieffer Bellows off of waivers
Yesterday the New York Islanders placed Kieffer Bellows on waivers. The Islanders needed to create cap space and intended to send Bellows to the AHL if he'd cleared waivers. Unfortunately for the Islanders, Bellows was unable to clear.
Bellows was drafted by the Isles 19th overall in 2016. Last season Bellows finally took a step towards being an everyday NHLer putting up 19 points in 45 games in a depth role.
Chris Johnston of The Daily Faceoff announced today that the Philadelphia Flyers placed a claim on the 24-year-old forward.
Philadelphia claims Kieffer Bellows off waivers from the N.Y. Islanders.
This continues to be an example of Lou Lamoriello and his inability to manage to salary cap. Due to the large contracts he's given out to depth forwards he lost this former first round pick for absolutely no assets in return. It is expected Bellows will get a look with the Flyers once he reports to the team.
