Emotional exchange between Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider, shows why Kreider is the next captain
When Ryan McDonagh left New York for Tampa Bay in 2018, it marked the last time the Rangers had a team captain. When they chose to enter a rebuild they also committed to not having a captain until the time was right. It's becoming abundantly clear the time to name a captain is now.
And that captain is Chris Kreider.
Through the playoffs we've seen Kreider lead the Rangers both off and on the ice. Kreider was seen earlier this playoffs throwing away the tablet when Mika Zibanejad wanted to overthink a breakaway.
After last night's game Kreider showed why his next jersey will have a "C" on it. After the heartbreaking loss to the Lightning, Kreider made a point to hug every member of his team. Including this emotional moment with his teammate, Mika Zibanejad.
This embrace shows just how much of a leader Kreider is and how much he means to the Rangers and his teammates.
