Former 1st round pick retires from hockey at 27-years-old
When the Calgary Flames stepped to the podium and selected Morgan Klimchuk 28th overall, the team had high hopes for him. Klimchuk had an extremely successful WHL career, putting up over a point per game player in 3 of his 4 WHL seasons.
Unfortunately for Klimchuk that production never transitioned to the professional game. The 6'0" left winger had his most successful season in the AHL in 2016-2017 when he put up 43 points in 66 games.
The Flames had hopes his game would transition to the NHL, but Klimchuk only played a single game in 2017-2018.
After leaving the Flames organization Klimchuk spent time with both the Maple Leafs and Senators AHL affiliates. Now after a year out of professional hockey Klimchuk has officially retired from professional hockey. Klimchuk will join the Victoria Royals of the WHL as an assistant coach.
