Brent Seabrook played 15 seasons in the National Hockey League. He was a dominant two-way defenceman who was a huge part of the Chicago Blackhawks recent Stanley Cup winning teams. He last played in December of 2019 and officially retired in March of 2021. Multiple injuries started to pile up and he just could not get healthy enough to play again. Now it looks like he's going to help a new generation of players try to make their NHL dreams come true.
Seabrook grew up playing hockey in the Vancouver area and his returned home now that his playing days are over. He filled in as an assistant coach this past December for the Vancouver Giants when their head coach was away with Team Canada at the World Juniors. Seabrook has been around the organization in an informal role this past year and this just makes it official.
It's not a huge high-profile job by any means, but it's a way of starting his new life after his playing career. Seabrook is still receiving a large paycheck though. He was put on LTIR to save cap space and traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning will pay Seabrook $5 Million this season and $4.5 Million next season.
