That is quite the praise from the Panthers' current coach. Pavel Datsyuk was a legend during his playing days. He was eminently skilled puck-handling wizard who dominated at both ends of the rink. Incredible set of hands and tremendous vision. He had the ability to turn on a dime and turn defenders inside-out. He was awesome defensively, with an uncanny ability to sneak up on opponents and strip them of the puck. Datsyuk has three Frank J. Selke trophies, four Lady Byng trophies and the two Stanley Cups.
When comparing the two Brunette might be onto something. They are both unbelieve play makers with excellent vision. Both are so committed on the defensive side of the game. They are complete forwards. If you wanted to nit pick one weakness in both of their games it is they could score more goals if they were a little more selfish with the puck. Datsyuk's career high for goals in a season was 32. Marner hit his career high this season with 34 so far.
