Former Stanley Cup Champion placed on waivers after playing only 6 games
After spending the last week trying to make a trade, the Toronto Maple Leafs have decided to place Nicolas Aube-Kubel on waivers. Kubel signed on day one of free agency with the Maple Leafs, his deal was a 1-year deal worth $1,000,000. It was reported in the summer that Sheldon Keefe was a big supporter of NAK and pushed hard for him to be signed.
According to Chris Johnston the Maple Leafs made NAK available but no team would bite on a trade:
The #leafs made Nicolas Aubé-Kubel available via trade this week before placing him on waivers today.
He's been a frequent scratch of late.
If Aube-Kubel clears waivers he will be assigned to the Toronto Marlies. The Maple Leafs appear to set to get Timothy Liljegren back for Saturday's game and needed to clear a roster spot for his return.
