Hockey is a physically demanding sport. It always has been and always will be and even though the role of enforcer is slowly being thrown to the wayside, that doesn't help former players that made their living in the National Hockey League playing 5 minutes a night and answering the bell whenever it was rung, or players that have had several concussions and needed to prematurely end their career.
The link between CTE, whether from fighting or more likely just head trauma in general is well documented, even if the NHL won't acknowledge it. Former enforcer Dan Carcillo just announced what could be a major breakthrough to help former players; take a look.
I know I have CTE
I am also acutely aware I will not die from it
I have cured myself of mild dementia
The FDA has given Breakthrough Therapy designation to psilocyb!n, twice
The @NHLPA & it's former players who are suffering can legally come to our Oregon facility & begin to reverse the effects of neurodegenerative disease
The FDA has designated psilocybin a 'breakthrough therapy' drug, recently putting out draft guidance in order to help researchers with clinical trials. While this remains illegal in Canada and most U.S states it has been legalized on Oregon.
While it is available in Oregon, this isn't something that you can take without supervision. However, if what Carcillo is saying is found to be true on a larger scale, this may help former players adapt to life after hockey in a much better way.
