Gary Bettman gives in and comes to a final decision on Pride Tape
After weeks of facing bad publicity and public outcry, the NHL has finally changed their stance on the previously announced pride tape ban. After Travis Dermott of the Arizona Coyotes chose to use the tape in a recent game, the league faced more bad publicity. Reports surfaced that more players around the league were prepared to challenge. Gary Bettman and the league's decision.
Today however, the league announced that they have decided to revert their band and instead allow players to support social issues via tape on their stick. Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet the following news.
There is word the NHL, NHLPA and NHL Player Inclusion Coalition have agreed that players will have the option to represent social causes with stick tape throughout the season. This includes games and practices
This decision will allow players to support causes they'd like without fearing they'll face backlash. This however also allows players to not take part should they feel strongly against a cause.
This appears as a true loss for Gary Bettman as this entire situation could have been avoided.
