The Tampa Bay Lightning have been a perennial winner in recent years, but they are certainly in a tough spot to start the season at the goaltending position with starter and franchise backbone Andrei Vasilevskiy out for at least the first month of the National Hockey League, desperate times call for desperate measures.
Today, Lightning Head Coach Jon Cooper announced that Jonas Johansson would be the starter in Vasilevskiys absence beginning Tuesday against Nashville, something that is certainly a curious decision; take a look.
Johansson, 28, was once called the worst goalie ever seen by Buffalo Sabres beat writer John Vogl following a trade from the team. In just 35 NHL games he has an 11-13-4 record with 1 shutout, a 3.35 Goals-Against-Average and an .886 Save-Percentage.
We'll see how Johansson performs, but from the looks of things the Lightning are in serious trouble to start the season.
