The New York Rangers seem to have a knack for finding diamonds in the rough when it comes to drafting goaltenders. After Henrik Lundqvist left many fans were wondering who would take the reigns in the net for the Rangers. While many believed Alexandar Georgiev would be the guy, he was ultimately out performers by Igor Shesterkin.
The 26-year-old had a career year going 36-13-4 with a 2.07 goals against and .935% save percentage. The 4th round 118th overall pick had a solid playoffs helping the Rangers to the Eastern Conference Finals before being eliminated by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Shesterkin wants to build on the success of last season and by the looks of his off-season training video players might want to think twice about messing with Shesterkin.
In the video you see Shesterkin working on his boxing skills which puts a real focus on hand eye coordination for the net minder. It's great to see the unique methods players use to hone their skills.
