We know, that on paper, the Calgary Flames had one of the best off-season's in recent history, brining in Jonathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar and Nazem Kadri when all was said and done, however, they almost went after another piece instead of Kadri.
According to an independent report confirmed by team sources, sending Sean Monahan to Montreal was supposed to include a player in return. Take a look:
The original deal sending Monahan to Calgary was to include a first round pick and Josh Anderson and a throw in as the return back to the Flames. With the signing of Kadri they obviously made it a cap dump move.
Could you imagine if the Flames had to settle for Josh Anderson? They would look a lot less dynamic up front. I know they've struggled so far this season, but they'll get it going soon I would imagine.
If the original deal went through, instead of getting applause for the off-season Flames general manager Brad Treliving might have been looking for a new job
