Chicago appears ready for a lengthy rebuild. There has already been a lot of speculation as to what will happen with their captain Jonathan Toews. Although he is starting the season in Chicago many think he will be moved for future assets. Toews had a very down year last year, at least by his standards. He only had twelve goals and twenty five assists. Not typical Toews numbers. He still has the ability to be a very effective player and his leadership is second to none.
NHL insiders Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman believe that Toews could become available later in the year and they believe that either the Boston Bruins or the Edmonton Oiler could be potential destinations.
Of course, Toews has the right to decide where he wants to play with his no movement contract. Perhaps he waits to see how the season goes and see who the cup contenders are. Imagining Jonathan Toews on either of those two clubs would really be interesting. Toews would fit in perfectly as a number two center, especially for either of those franchises. Toews also has a wealth of playoff experience including three Stanley Cup. This is the type of experience that NHL franchises would love to have on the ice and in the locker room.
