Insider reveals why NHL teams are afraid of signing Sonny Milano
Last season Sonny Milano was the recipient of one of the most talked about passes in NHL history. Milano was on the receiving end of Trevor Zegras' 'lacrosse pass' leading to one of the best goals of the season. The goal has been replayed on highlight reels since it happened.
Milano just completed a 2-year deal with a cap hit of $1,700,000 per season, but the Anaheim Ducks elected to not give Milano a qualifying offer. The lack of qualifying offer immediately made Milano a unrestricted free agent.
Last season was the most productive season of Milano's career. In 66 games he put up 14 goals and 20 assists for 34 points. Many expected Milano to receive multiple contract offers, but that hasn't been the case.
According to Frank Seravelli of The Daily Faceoff, there is a reason for the lack of interest:
Frank Seravalli said on Sportsnet 960 that teams have concerns about Sonny Milano's concussion history going forward, which is why he is still a free agent.
With cap space so limited and injuries so prevalent many teams are unwilling to take the risk on a player like Milano. While Milano clearly as the skills and abilities to be an NHLer it appears teams are valuing health extremely highly this season.
