Islanders announce firing of Head Coach

After a disappointing start to the season, the New York Islanders were never able to bounce back and contend for a playoff spot. Unfortunately for Barry Trotz that inability cost him his job as today the Islanders made the following announcement:

#Isles News: New York Islanders President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello announced today that Barry Trotz has been relieved of his duties as Head Coach.

Trotz had taken the Islander to back-to-back Eastern Conference Finals before this season. Trotz will immediately become the highest sought after free agent coach on the market.

It's difficult to blame Trotz for the failures of his team. General Manager, Lou Lamoriello gave Trotz one of the oldest teams in the league. The team and style Trotz likes to play was almost impossible to do given the personnel he was given.

If the Islanders don't improve next year it will likely be Lamoriello being shown the exit.
