Jack Campbell elected to test free agency this summer for the first time in his NHL career. Campbell opted to leave Toronto and sign with the Edmonton Oilers. Campbell agreed to a 5-year contract with an annual cap hit of $5,000,000.
Even though Campbell has moved on from the city, he hasn't forgotten about his fans. Jack took the time to meet with one of his fans last weekend. Campbell took the time to meet young Levi, who is a big fan.
Levi is a goalie for his club hockey team, the Welland Tigers, and brought his hockey card to gift to Campbell at the new Edmonton Oilers goalie's meet-and-greet and the two shared a special moment.
He gave a card to Jack because we were getting a signed photo of Jack, so we wanted to do a trade. Levi introduced himself and let him know how much he appreciated Jack's time with the Maple Leafs.
Levi then gave Campbell his hockey card
Once we let him know it was his to keep, you could see Jack lit right up.
Campbell being such an amazing person would ask Levi to sign the hockey card for him. He told the young fan:
He was going to keep the card to bring him good luck in games.
Grant shared:
he's always thought of Campbell as a stand-up player, but their interaction exceeded all his expectations. Levi, who plays goalie for his club team, now knows which player he aspires to be like.
Levi and me both being Toronto Maple Leafs fans, I thought it was a cool opportunity to meet up with Jack, introduce Levi to a professional goaltender and someone he can look up to and watched a lot.
