Today the Edmonton Oilers finally made the difficult decision to place Jack Campbell on waivers. Less than 18 months after being signed by the Oilers, the Jack Campbell experiment seems to be over. What began with such high hopes has suddenly gone south.
In his career with the Oilers Campbell has poster an .886 save percentage and a 3.53 goals against average. These numbers are both well below league average and with a cap hit or $5,000,000 the Oilers have finally reached their breaking point.
A potential trade for Carter Hart would go a very long way for the Oilers, but the price to move Campbell on its own would be VERY high. The question becomes, will the Oilers be willing to pay the price it takes to move Campbell? Or will they take the risk of Connor McDavid running out of patience with the team?
