When Johnny Gaudreau left the Calgary Flames and the City of Calgary itself a lot of people took it personally which, at the time, was the only way to take it, however, Gaudreau recently opened up about his decision.
According to Wes Gilbertson, a Calgary Flames beat reporter for post media, it was actually more of a heart wrenching decision then people realize, take a look:
I know a lot of people thought I was just stringing Calgary along, but no. It was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make.
Gaudreau continue by saying that time with his family was a major factor in his decision to pick Columbus as a landing spot.
I've been able to spend so much time with my nieces, my sister, brother-in-law ... They've been out 2 or 3 times already. My dad, I don't think he has missed a game. It's just been great to spend so much time with them, and that was what was important to me.
It seems this was more of a family motivated decision than many people realize. I know the Blue Jackets are struggling so far this year, but the time Gaudreau gets to spend with his family must be invaluable and that alone would make the struggles worth it in my eyes.
