Leafs fans furious after Tavares and Nylander embarrassing effort costs the team a loss q
Tonight the Toronto Maple Leafs faced off against the Boston Bruins. This was an opportunity for the Leafs to potentially close some gap between themselves and the top ranked Bruins. After fighting back from a 2-0 deficit, the Leafs once again clawed back with under 10 seconds to go.
With seconds remaining Auston Matthews added his second goal of the game to push the game to overtime. After an incredible overtime period, William Nylander blew a tire in the neutral zone giving away the puck. The Bruins capitalized and Brad Marchand ended an 8 game goalless drought for the game winner.
However losing the game isn't what upset Maple Leafs fans. Instead it was the pathetic effort to back check by both Nylander and captain John Tavares. On the play both men were in the neutral zone, and neither arrived in the defensive zone before the goal was scored.
For Nylander, despite the collision, it was Marchand who he'd collided with. This look for both Tavares and Nylander is an extremely poor one. But more so it highlights Sheldon Keefe's inability to play anyone but his Core Four during important moments. Ultimately leading to his team being extremely tired and unable to respond.
