Matt Duchene spears Matthew Tkachuk after he gets high sticked
The Calgary Flames versus Nashville Predators game yesterday had a little bit of everything, fights, big hits and a little bit of the dirty stuff as well. Considering there are only a couple of games until the playoffs begin next Tuesday, this may as well have been playoff hockey.
After Erik Gudbrandson and Tanner Jeannot were sent off for fighting at the 3:07 mark of the first period on the ensuing faceoff Matthew Tkachuk high-sticks Matt Duchene tempers flaired and they both end up going at each other. The linesmen were quick to step in, but not before each got their shots in.
On the play Tkachuk caught Duchene with a high stick and Duchene replied with a spear in return.
Duchene and Tkachuk were each given two-minute minors for slashing and high-sticking, but Duchene received an extra penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Preds coach John Hynes was irate with the officials when they gave Duchene the extra two, and in this instance, I have to agree, Tkachuk is always an instigator and he was also the one to try and dodge the officials and threw off his gloves to try and get at every Nashville player he could.
