The Florida Panthers are in Montreal tonight to take on the Canadiens. Two teams that would want more out of the season so far.
During the first period Canadiens defender Mike Matheson destroys Panthers forward Eric Staal with a reverse hit, take a look
Two things, while to the old school hockey fan this may look like a textbook hit, it's not. It's clear interference. Second the elbow is also a little high.
No call was assessed on the play and there should've been. Matheson stopped staal from getting the puck with the hit, if a player doesn't have you can't initiate contact.
I'm sure to some this will be a controversial take, but with the way the officiating has been this season, it's no surprise there was no call on the play.
