The Stanley Cup Playoffs began last night for the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings. Game 1 between the teams featured almost everything, and it seemed like it was going to take a mistake to decide the winner, and that's exactly what happened. After LA took an early 2-0 lead, Connor McDavid got one back to get the Oilers back into the game.
The game continued at a back and forth pace with both team exchanging chances and goals. With the score 3-3 in the 3rd period, Oilers' goalie Mike Smith made a grave mistake. Smith who is usually a solid puck handler ended up giving away the puck to Alex Iafallo. Iaffalo would fire the puck at the net, but Smith was able to recover to make a huge save.
Unfortunately for the Oilers, they were unable to retain the puck and the Kings' Sean Durzi was able to fire a shot through from the blue line. The shot managed to find it's way behind Smith who was unable to regain his composure after the big giveaway.
The Los Angeles Kings would hold on for a 4-3 win and take the 1-0 series lead. Game 2 of the series is set for Wednesday night in Edmonton where the Oilers will try to get back even with the Kings.
