Montreal Canadiens Captain ejected after one of the softest calls of the season
The fans in attendance at the FLA Live Arena in Sunrise were treated to a high scoring game between the Panthers and Montreal Canadiens. The home crowd went home happy with a 9-5 victory.
Tensions were high after a first period that combined for ten goals between the two teams.
With frustration setting in, late in the 3rd period Habs Captain Nick Suzuki couldn't hold himself back, and cross-checked young center Anton Lundell near the Panthers bench.
Suzuki received a game misconduct on the play, a puzzling call by the ref. Looking at the reply, it was a high cross check but doesn't warrant the misconduct.
Canadiens rookie defenceman Johnathan Kovacevic was also given a game misconduct during the altercation.
Suzuki spoke after the game:
Suzuki on his ejection:
"I got him on the top of the helmet, it wasn't under his visor. He kinda took a weird run at me, I gave him a shot, a little scrum...I don't think I did anything that bad - probably the refs just trying to control the game & call a penalty.
Some of the blame has to fall on the captain's shoulders for losing his cool, but in the heat of battle it happens.
