Most recent update from the Washington Capitals on John Carlson isn't a positive one
Yesterday, Washington Capitals' coach Peter Laviolette provided a status update for many of the Capitals' regulars who have missed significant time to injury this year. Unfortunately for them, while the will be welcoming back a handful of important players, one of their top defenceman will miss more time than initially believed.
All of Tom Wilson, Niklas Backstrom, and TJ Oshie are nearing a return to the lineup. These three will be expected to return this week, but John Carlson will remain absent.
Carlson was originally thought to be week-to-week, but as Tarik El-Bashir of the Athletic reported today, Carlson will now be evaluated on a month-to-month basis.

The Capitals struggled early on as they fought through these significant injuries, but with eight wins in their last ten games, these regulars returning from injury will be a massive boost to the lineup.
Carlson will be missed, but the Capitals should be fine. His offensive production has been a longtime characteristic of their team, but the surprising emergence of Erik Gustafsson has been able to stop the gap for Carlson's absence. Now shooting you the standings, the Capitals look primed for another trip to the Stanley Cup playoffs.
