The first round series between the Calgary Flames and the Dallas Stars has been nothing if not physical. A number of questionable hits have been delivered throughout the series, none greater then the hit by Nikita Zadorov on Dallas Forward Luke Glendening.

4 minutes into the second period, during game 6 last night, Zadorov made significant head contact, effectively knocking Glendening out. To which, the National Hockey League has ruled, the Flames' defensemen will not be suspended, here's the official explanation as to why:

After thoroughly reviewing all available video and following a telephone hearing today, the Department of Player Safety has determined that there will be no supplemental discipline assessed to Calgary's Nikita Zadorov for his hit against Dallas' Luke Glendening.

While there was significant head contact on this play, Zadorov took a proper angle of approach, did not extend outward or upward, and hit through Glendening's core. Therefore, under Rule 48.1 (i), the head contact was determined to be unavoidable.

Even more concerning, Glendening, who was seemingly knocked out on the play, appears to have been cleared to play game 7.
