This morning, Philadelphia Flyers' GM Daniel Briere spoke on the ongoing Hockey Canada investigation into a sexual assault that occurred by the hands of members of the 2018 Canada World Juniors team. Specifically relevant to the Flyers and Briere is the potential implication of their goaltender, Carter Hart.
Briere recalled that he's personally reached out to Hockey Canada, likely for an update on investigation status and when the results will come forth, but seems not to have received an answer.
The investigation is being handled by London Police in accordance with Hockey Canada, and was believed to be completed sometime this fall. Given the severity of the accusations, NHL executives likely wished the results to come out sooner, as they may be forced to take appropriate actions against implicated players - if they are able to play in the league at all.
For the Flyers, Carter Hart has been thought of as their future goaltender. Now, he may never play a game past his age 25 season, and rightfully so. For the NHL and the game of hockey in general, it's long overdue that proper action was taken against those that use their power as professionals for abuse and assault.
