Last night, the Ottawa Senators faced off against the Detroit Red Wings in what turned into a rather nasty contest after Detroit's captain, Dylan Larkin was left motionless on the ice.
As a result, the Red Wings started an all out melee in which David Perron was assessed a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for intent to injure. Now the National Hockey League has announced a hearing for Perron; take a look
Detroit's David Perron has been offered an in-person hearing for cross-checking Ottawa's Artem Zub. Date and time TBD. There's just no reason that this would ever be called for, I get the emotions of seeing your captain laying motionless on the ice, but that was Artem Zub, not Mathieu Joseph.
As Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman points out offering Perron and in person hearing gives the league the option to hand out a 5 or more game suspension although that's not a guarantee.
With this, NHL has the option to suspend more than 5 games. Not a guarantee, but the option.
We'll see where this goes.
