After the National Hockey League announced a hearing for Detroit Red Wings, they've finally announced his punishment.

Detroit's David Perron has been suspended for six games for cross-checking Ottawa's Artem Zub.

There was absolutely no reason for a veteran like Perron to act this way and the fact that he's gotten the longest suspension of the season is deserved. I get seeing your captain down on the ice being a rather jarring experience, however, he's been around long enough to know dropping the gloves is the thing to do in the above situation.

We don't expect much from the Department of Player Safety in the National Hockey League, but we should give credit where it's due. They got this suspension right.

Hopefully this is the start of harsher penalties for blatant displays of intent to injure, but I won't be holding my breath either. In any case, David Perron got what he deserved.
