Ben Bishop was acquired in June by the Buffalo Sabres, in a long-term injured reserve cap dump for the Dallas Stars.

The Sabres in a rebuild will be eating the final year of Bishop's $5 million AAV contract. Nill acquired future considerations for Bishop's contract, in return for the seventh-round pick in the 2022 draft,

Bishop of course, didn't play another NHL game after the bubble in 2020 due to a degenerative knee condition and would eventually retire in December of last year, he has a job waiting for him, but, it couldn't be announced right away.

Jim Nill was forbidden by the NHL from letting Ben Bishop assume his role in the Stars' front office, until the end of the 2022-2023 season.

As a result, Bishop won't be allowed the Stars organization until his contract runs its course.

I'm sorry, but is the same NHL that let Chris Pronger's contract collecting dust on LTIR for years after he hung up the skates, while also employing him? That NHL?

It seems they're very choosy with what rules they want to enforce and when. Favouritism seems to play a huge part in what the league brass at the top decide to do. Will they ever change?
