The Sabres in a rebuild will be eating the final year of Bishop's $5 million AAV contract. Nill acquired future considerations for Bishop's contract, in return for the seventh-round pick in the 2022 draft,
Bishop of course, didn't play another NHL game after the bubble in 2020 due to a degenerative knee condition and would eventually retire in December of last year, he has a job waiting for him, but, it couldn't be announced right away.
Jim Nill was forbidden by the NHL from letting Ben Bishop assume his role in the Stars' front office, until the end of the 2022-2023 season.
As a result, Bishop won't be allowed the Stars organization until his contract runs its course.
