The Nottingham Panthers have wasted no time to announce plans to ensure Adam Johnson's memory is enshrined at its home arena.
Johnson tragically died when his neck was cut by an opponent's skate in late October. The Panthers say no one on their team will ever wear his number again.
"We are humbled to announce that we will be retiring Adam Johnson's #47 jersey. Forever our 47💛."
In addition to this, Johnson's legacy is the increased awareness surrounding cut resistant hockey equipment, and the increased willingness to wear it. Many players in leagues all over the world have either made in mandatory, or are strongly recommending players wear it since Johnson's death.
Matt Petgrave, whose skate cut Johnson during a game, was arrested by police in Nottingham on suspension of manslaughter. He was released on bail. So far, no charges have been laid.
