Earlier today, Lukas Weese of the Athletic reported that the Niagara IceDogs' Joey and Billy Burke have been suspended indefinitely for prejudicial conduct, against the league's policies, for comments made in a WhatsApp chat.
In addition to suspending the brothers from the league, the Niagara Ice Dogs and both individuals have been fined $150,000.
When an investigation was launched after a WhatsApp chat comment was made public, the OHL found that the brothers' comments and actions «runs counter to the OHL's Onside program which emphasizes the importance of demonstrating respect for women through actions and words.»
The Burke brothers will have the opportunity to apply for reinstatement as of June 2024, but for now, they will be barred from the league.
