Olympic Athlete Sarah Nurse Breaks Ground
Sarah Nurse has had a great year, in the hockey arena and outside of it as well.
Nurse, the first woman on the EA NHL game cover, will be sharing the picture with rookie Trevor Zegras of the Anaheim Ducks.
Clem Kwong of EA Sports mentioned that the company had been thinking about putting a woman on the cover previously, and is currently using the vehicle to make the game inclusive in the future.
"When we started going through the process and looking at the short list of athletes, we were looking for athletes that were on the biggest stage," he said. "Sarah is a very skilled athlete. When you're talking about speed and creativity, she's proven that on the biggest stage. She's a pioneer in inclusivity and diversity within the sport, too."
EA opened the door for a woman on the cover when they added the IIHF pack in Christmas of 2022. This was the first year for women to be in the game, so as a business decision it was a natural progression from the start.
